Q. How does Kiln Drying and Finger Jointing affect the performance of the Weatherproof range?
A. Kiln Drying ensures that all Weatherproof retains its dimensional integrity and does not distort when used onsite. In simple terms, the timber maintains its original size, shape and strength grading. All radiata is dried to an average moisture content of between 12 and 15%, ensuring the versatility of Weatherproof when used in  construction. Finger Jointing is the process of removing defects from the wood fibre and mechanically joining the pieces of radiata into longer, straighter lengths.

Q. Why is Weatherproof the product of choice when designing and building external constructions?
A. Weatherproof is a product for now and the future with a range to cater for all applications. With products such as the F7 Structural and GL8 Laminated Beams and Posts as part of the range, the end user has options to build pergolas, decks and other designs with a durable and Pre-primed product.

Q. What is LOSP treatment and how does it protect the Weatherproof range?
A. LOSP is the abbreviation for Light Organic Solvent Preservative, the name given to chemicals used in the treatment of all Weatherproof products. H3 is the hazard level which relates to the amount of treatment and the recommended worse case application. The H3 treatment level recommends above ground, exposed to the weather applications but similarly you can use Weatherproof internally also.  Learn more...

Q. What guidelines do I need to follow when handling, cutting and installing Weatherproof products?
A.
Ensure that all Weatherproof products are kept dry and away from moisture prior to installation to minimise the potential of degrade on-site. It is advisable to wear the appropriate protective equipment when handling, cutting and working with all Weatherproof. Gloves, dust mask and goggles are recommended to protect against dust and airborne particles. Fill any nail holes and defects with a wood filler and spot prime. Coat any exposed timber with a preservative resealer and then recoat with a quality primer prior to final finishing. The important points to remember are to reseal the treatment envelope created by the LOSP and then re-apply a primer to repair the coating.  Learn more...

Q. What is the long term performance of all Weatherproof products and how do you maintain them once installed?
A. The Weatherproof range is a long term building product that has a limited manufacturers warranty on product durability and coating. All Weatherproof needs to be applied with 2 coats of quality finish paint and installed with recommended fixings. To ensure performance over time, recoat the installed product in accordance with the paint manufacturer's advice. Providing all Weatherproof is maintained it will give the end user years of service in the desired application.  Learn more...

Q. Can I really finish with 2 topcoats of finishing paint and is the coating a real primer?
A. Yes. Once all Weatherproof is installed, make sure that the Pink Primer is intact and has not suffered any degrade or damage while on site or during installation. If there some areas that need attention, apply a wood filler if necessary, lightly sand and apply a quality primer to touch up. Follow this up with 2 topcoats of a quality paint to complete the job. Maintain your project according to the manufacturer's instructions.  Refer to the Painting Weatherproof section for guidelines on final finishing.

Q. What fixings should be used when installing the Weatherproof range?
A. Use Hot dipped galvanised fixings to install all Weatherproof products. Check the manufacturer's recommendations and ensure that any fixing selected is non-corrosive.

Q. How do I dispose of all Weatherproof offcuts?
A. Dispose of all offcuts and waste as you would normal building waste. Do not burn/incinerate any shavings, sawdust or offcuts in open fires or barbeques. Do not use shavings on gardens or for landscaping.

Q. How competitive is the Weatherproof range compared to other product options?
